Piston rings  are cast iron. The outer surface of the upper compression ring, adjacent to the cylinder, is covered with a layer of porous chromium; other rings - a layer of tin. The inner surface of the compression rings has a chamfer. The rings must be installed on the piston with the chamfer to the bottom of the piston. Violation of this condition causes oil leakage through the ring into the cylinder, soot formation on the walls of the combustion chamber, increased oil consumption. The oil ring has slots to drain oil removed by the ring from the cylinder mirror through the holes in the piston into the engine crankcase.
